Dayna Mckinney
Owner of Stay By Day

1. How did you get started in the Interior design industry?
A: I’ve always believed interior design is something that naturally finds you. I’ve had an eye for creating spaces that feel beautiful and put together for as long as I can remember. It really began when I redesigned my cottage after my father passed away and turned it into an Airbnb. The response was incredible; people kept commenting on how inviting and thoughtfully designed it felt. From there, friends, family, and even guests started reaching out for help with their own spaces. I went on to do the same with my home, and it all grew very organically from there. Having previously run my own hair business for 10 years, creativity has always been a big part of who I am, so stepping into design felt like a very natural next chapter. I’ve been blessed and presented with a few new opportunities, and I’m excited about Stay by Days’ future.

2. What is the most satisfying part about running your own business?
A: Seeing a space completely transform and watching a client fall in love with their home again is incredibly rewarding. There’s something really powerful about creating an environment that changes how someone feels every day. It’s not just about how a space looks; it’s about how it functions and supports their lifestyle. I love knowing that the work we’ve done has a lasting impact, whether it’s bringing a sense of calm, pride, or excitement back into their home. Building those relationships and being trusted with something so personal makes it even more meaningful.
3.  How would you describe your business philosophy and service?
A: I believe in working with what’s already there, especially pieces that hold meaning. From there, I layer in textures, tones, and elevated elements to bring everything together in a way that feels intentional, personal, and refined. I take the time to really listen to my clients, understanding what works for them, what doesn’t, and how they live day-to-day, so the space not only looks beautiful but functions well with their lifestyle. Every project is approached individually because no two spaces or people are the same, and it’s never about a cookie-cutter result. It’s about creating something that feels authentic, lived-in, and truly reflective of the person who calls it home.
4. How would you describe yourself to the INDUSTREE group?
A: I’d describe myself as creative, intuitive, and very detail-oriented. I’ve always had a natural eye for aesthetics, but what matters most to me is creating spaces that feel lived in and comfortable, not just styled. I tend to see the potential in a space right away, and I genuinely enjoy the process of bringing it to life in a way that feels elevated yet still personal.

I’m someone who really values connection in my work. I take the time to listen, ask questions, and understand how someone actually lives in their space. I’m very hands-on and naturally solution-focused, whether that means working within a budget, reworking what’s already there, or pulling everything together under pressure. I care deeply about what I do, and I take a lot of pride in creating spaces that feel beautiful, functional, and truly personal to the people living in them.

Vanessa Nero
Vanessa Nero
Owner of the painting company

1. How did you get started in the painting industry?
I worked as a student painter while studying drawing and painting. Eventually, I started working at a paint store, where I realized that I had an edge; I understood paint and solvents more than the average painter. I decided that I could build a company, showcase my skills, and help people, and here we are.

2. What is the most satisfying part about running your own business?
I love solving problems. As a painting company, we’re one of the last trades on-site, and we need to ensure that the space is brought to perfection, often working around architectural and material limitations. How do you make knotty pine look as luxurious as white oak? That’s where we come in.

3. How would you describe your business philosophy and service?

Our philosophy is rooted in creativity, artistry, and timeless perfection. We’re focused on using our skills and craftsmanship to create beautiful, lasting spaces as efficiently as possible.

4. How would you describe yourself to the INDUSTREE group?

I am a creative person who uses a range of skills and materials to solve challenging problems. I have over a decade of industry experience, and I am always eager to learn, grow, and refine my craft while consistently delivering beautiful spaces. I am uniquely skilled in repair work, specifically damaged millwork and decorative finishes.

1. How did you get started in the construction industry?

I was first introduced to construction in high school through a co-op placement. I had always enjoyed building furniture in shop classes, so it felt like a natural fit.

After graduating, I worked in construction for a year before moving into the restaurant industry, which eventually led me to running a fishing lodge for six years. That experience brought me back into construction and system management.

In 2015, my wife and I left the lodge with our children, and I started my own company. I haven’t looked back since.

2. What is the most satisfying part about running your own business?

The most satisfying part is bringing people’s visions to life and seeing their reaction when a project is complete.

I also enjoy staying current with new technologies that continue to evolve the industry, and having the ability to choose what tools and systems we use to move the business forward.

Being able to control my schedule is another major benefit, especially when it comes to family life.

3. How would you describe your business philosophy and service?

My philosophy is simple: the customer always comes first.

I see my role as customer service. Making sure clients feel confident, supported, and satisfied throughout the process is just as important as the final result.

At the end of the day, we leave the job, but the client lives with the outcome. The goal is to make the process smooth and deliver exactly what they envisioned.

4. How would you describe yourself to the INDUSTREE group?

I’m hard-working and always open to learning new skills and techniques that improve how we operate.

Communication is a key part of what I do. Keeping clients, suppliers, employees, and trades informed helps every project run better, and it’s something I take pride in.

My focus is always on delivering a strong result while making the process positive for everyone involved.

1. How did you get started in the interior design industry?

My path into interior design was not entirely linear. Growing up, I was encouraged to pursue dentistry as a more conventional and stable career. However, I was always drawn to art. From a young age, I spent time drawing, especially portraits, and exploring different forms of creative expression.

In my final year of high school, I made the decision to step away from external expectations and follow what genuinely resonated with me. I realized I was passionate about creating and expressing ideas visually. Interior design became the natural intersection of creativity and purpose, allowing me to move beyond the canvas and design spaces people can live in and experience.

Looking back, I don’t regret that decision. It was the moment I chose to trust my instincts, and it led me to a field where I feel both creatively fulfilled and aligned.

2. What is the most satisfying part about running your own business?

The most satisfying part is the ability to create spaces with intention. Being involved in the full process, from concept through execution, allows me to ensure that every decision contributes to a cohesive result.

What I find most rewarding is translating an idea into a physical environment that people experience in their daily lives. Knowing a space can influence how someone feels, whether through comfort, clarity, or calm, is what makes the work meaningful.

3. How would you describe your business philosophy and service?

My design philosophy is rooted in human well-being and the emotional impact of space. I believe interiors should go beyond aesthetics and support how people feel and function within them.

I am drawn to natural elements, material depth, and intentional lighting to create environments that feel grounded and restorative. My approach is concept-driven and detail-oriented, ensuring every element contributes to a unified experience.

The goal is to create spaces that are visually strong, but also meaningful and connected to the people who use them.

4. How would you describe yourself to the INDUSTREE group?

I am a concept-driven and intuitive designer with a strong interest in the relationship between space and human experience.

I approach each project with clarity and intention, considering how design influences emotion and well-being. As I continue to grow, my focus is on contributing to a more thoughtful, human-centred approach to design, creating spaces that are functional, refined, and leave a lasting impact.

1. How did you get started in the real estate industry?

Before becoming a realtor, I worked as an office manager for a general contracting company that partnered with developers such as Menkes and CBRE and completed projects for the City. That role gave me firsthand exposure to construction, development, and the process of bringing projects from concept to completion.

I was involved in coordinating materials, ensuring compliance with COIs and WSIB, and supporting project administration. I also worked as a project coordinator and designer, helping develop office spaces for companies like Amazon and DriveTest Centres.

Through those experiences, I occasionally worked with realtors during land and property acquisitions, which sparked my interest in the industry. I realized that my background in construction, project coordination, and design could bring valuable insight to clients evaluating properties and opportunities.

2. What is the most satisfying part about running your own business?

The most rewarding part of running my own business is having the ability to manage my time with intention. Time is one of our most valuable resources, and entrepreneurship allows me to balance my professional ambitions with being present for my family.

Real estate provides the flexibility to fully dedicate myself to my clients while still maintaining balance in other areas of life, which is something I truly value.

3. How would you describe your business philosophy and service?

Real estate is a competitive industry, so grit and perseverance are essential. I approach every transaction with determination and a strong commitment to advocating for my clients every step of the way.

At the same time, integrity is at the core of my service. I guide my clients with the same care, diligence, and attention to detail that I would apply if I were making the decision myself.

4. How would you describe yourself to the INDUSTREEgroup?

I would describe myself as a multifaceted professional with a background in construction and a degree in management. My experiences have given me both a practical and strategic perspective on real estate.

I value building strong professional relationships and collaborating with individuals who share a passion for growth, innovation, and community development. I’m excited to continue expanding my network within the INDUSTREE community.

1. How did you get started in the commercial real estate industry?

I got into commercial real estate because I was drawn to helping people solve real operational problems while building something of my own over the long term. I’ve always had a strong work ethic, and CRE felt like an industry where effort directly translates into results.

Over time, I saw an opportunity to combine my interest in business, my analytical mindset, and my desire to make a meaningful impact on clients’ operations. That ultimately led me to industrial real estate.

2. What is the most satisfying part about running your own business?

The most rewarding part is seeing the direct impact of my work. The time and energy I put in each day contribute to building something that’s mine.

I take pride in helping clients navigate important decisions, and growing a business alongside that is incredibly fulfilling. The ownership drives me, and the responsibility pushes me to keep improving.

3. How would you describe your business philosophy and service?

My approach is simple: work hard, stay consistent, and put the client first.

I focus on understanding people, what they need, why they need it, and how their real estate decisions affect their broader operations. I aim to make the process clear and efficient by doing the heavy lifting and offering honest, thoughtful advice.

My goal is to deliver service that genuinely helps people and builds long-term relationships.

4. How would you describe yourself to the INDUSTREE group?

I believe in hard work, continuous growth, and doing right by people.

I’m early in my career, but I’m driven, committed to learning, and focused on building a strong foundation in industrial real estate. I take a client-first approach and look for ways to add value, whether through market insight, effort, or simply showing up when it matters.

1. How did you get started in the interior design industry?

I originally studied architectural history, but I realized I was more drawn to interiors than the buildings themselves. Working in a kitchen design showroom deepened that interest and showed me how impactful thoughtful design can be in everyday homes.

In 2020, when many showrooms closed, I began offering e-design services. That became the starting point of my career as a self-taught interior decorator.

2. What is the most satisfying part of running your business?

One of the most rewarding parts is helping people see the potential in their homes, and watching a space evolve from an idea into something that feels both beautiful and functional for the people living there.

3. How would you describe your business philosophy and service?

I focus on creating spaces that reflect the people who live in them rather than simply following trends. I believe great design should feel approachable, personal, and lived-in.

4. How would you describe yourself to the INDUSTREE group?

I would describe myself as self-driven. I enjoy learning, evolving, and finding new ways to create value through my work.

1. How did you get started with The Moving Genie?

I started this business more by circumstance than design. I moved to Canada from the US, and what was supposed to be a six-month immigration process turned into four years. During that time, I needed something to do, so I began helping people organize, often for free.

Organizing was always something I loved, whether in my own spaces or for friends and family. I’ve also moved over 30 times in my life, so I understand both the challenges and the advantages of moving on a very real level.

Once I was able to formally start the business, I knew I wanted to work closely with clients, especially those who are downsizing. Many people stay in their homes longer than they want to simply because they don’t know where to start or what to do with everything they’ve accumulated.

2. What is the most satisfying part about running your own business?

The most satisfying part is the team I’ve built. The Moving Genie team is truly our strength.

The work we do is deeply personal, often supporting families through major life transitions. When clients tell us we’ve helped them complete something they couldn’t do on their own, or that we’ve relieved the stress around it, that’s incredibly meaningful.

3. How would you describe your business philosophy and service?

Our philosophy is simple: we’re here to help.

While most projects follow a similar structure, every client is different. Their expectations, timelines, and emotions vary, so we approach each job with compassion, experience, and strong listening.

We provide clear estimates and timelines upfront so clients understand the process before we begin. Throughout the day, we check in regularly to keep everything transparent, allowing clients to feel informed and supported without needing to manage the process themselves.

4. How would you describe yourself to the INDUSTREE group?

The Moving Genie is an all-female team of professional organizers supporting clients through life transitions, whether that’s moving, downsizing, decluttering, renovating, or estate clearing.

We step in where support is needed most, working alongside our clients with care, efficiency, and a steady, positive presence.

1. How did you get started in the interior design industry?

My journey started in architecture, where I completed my studies and graduated with a master’s degree in Toronto. I went straight into the workforce, working for large corporate architecture firms and progressing from an intern. During this time, I exposed myself to as many types of work as possible, including residential, commercial, high-rise, and later construction, as well as firms of varying sizes to gain a well-rounded understanding of the industry.

Over the years, while working primarily with developers in the city, I found a lack of artistic flexibility and expression, as projects were often constrained by regulations and budgets. This led me to interior design, where I felt I could better explore materiality, artistic expression, and begin to develop my own unique style.

In my work, I continue to practice both architecture and interior design. This allows me to approach each project from all angles, bringing together meaning and style with architectural precision and understanding.

2. What is the most satisfying part about running your own business?

Owning my own business has been an evolving journey. I take pride in knowing that I created a future for myself and my family that no one can take away.

The entrepreneurial path has shaped me personally. It has required me to step outside of my comfort zone, build relationships, and remain humble in my growth. I’ve learned that even when you are highly skilled, relationships matter, sometimes more than they should.

There have been moments where I considered giving up, but resilience and discipline kept me moving forward. Ultimately, I’ve come to understand that whether in a “safe” job or on your own, achieving your goals comes down to trusting and relying on yourself.

3. How would you describe your business philosophy and service?

In my design practice, I believe every client should be treated as unique. No two clients, stories, or homes are alike. Design is a personal process and should be approached with care and intention.

It is not a repeatable formula. While trends can serve as a reference point, they should never dictate the outcome. Each project should reflect the individual, not the moment.

Our service reflects this approach. I spend meaningful time understanding my clients, their lifestyle, and involve them throughout the process to ensure the final result feels authentic and considered.

4. How would you describe yourself to the INDUSTREE group?

I am deeply passionate about design, but I don’t impose my aesthetic or ideas to serve a personal agenda. At the core, we are all people with families, responsibilities, and challenges.

Design is a business, but for me, success is measured by whether I’ve contributed in a meaningful way to improving my clients’ lives and the spaces they live in.

How did you get started in the real estate industry?

My interest in real estate started at a young age during a time of transition in my own family. When my parents had to sell our home, I found myself helping them search for what would come next. That experience stayed with me.

It showed me how emotional and important these moments can be, and it shaped the way I approach my work today. Real estate is not just about the property; it’s about helping people move through meaningful life changes with confidence and support.

What is the most satisfying part about running your own business?

Being part of something that truly matters to people.

Helping clients find a place they can call home, or guiding them through a transition, is something I take seriously. There’s a level of trust involved, and being able to support someone through that process in a calm and thoughtful way is what makes the work meaningful to me.

How would you describe your business philosophy and service?

Clarity, care, and consistency.

My background as a university athlete shaped how I work. Discipline, preparation, and adaptability are part of my approach, but just as important is how I show up for my clients.

I focus on creating a process that feels clear, steady, and well-supported from beginning to end, so clients always know where they stand and what comes next.

How would you describe yourself to the INDUSTREE group?

Grounded and committed.

I care about doing things properly and being present for the people I work with. I aim to bring a steady, thoughtful approach to every interaction, making sure clients feel informed, supported, and confident throughout the process.

Our work is rooted in restraint, material awareness, and respect for existing structure. We approach projects with a focus on longevity, proportion, and how a space is actually lived in.

Design started through my own space. What began as a personal project quickly expanded as others responded to the work and began asking for the same level of transformation in their homes.

How did you get started in the interior design industry?

My path into design began through a shift. I previously owned a clothing boutique, and after several years, I reached a point where I needed to grow beyond it.

Design started through my own space. What began as a personal project quickly expanded as others responded to the work and began asking for the same level of transformation in their homes.

Over time, that evolved into full-scope design and renovation work. Today, Spaces by Jacflash operates as a team working across residential and commercial projects, including new builds and heritage restorations.

What is the most satisfying part of running your own business?

Building and leading a team that is aligned, capable, and invested in the work.

Creative control is essential. Being able to carry a project from concept through execution without compromise allows the work to hold its integrity.

Beyond that, the ability to grow a business while maintaining a personal life is equally important. The balance is ongoing, but the intention behind it is what drives the work forward.

Our work is rooted in restraint, material awareness, and respect for existing structure. We approach projects with a focus on longevity, proportion, and how a space is actually lived in.

How did you get started in the custom furniture industry?

It started with frustration. I wanted well-made furniture for my own home and couldn’t find it. Most mass-produced pieces lacked quality, and custom work wasn’t accessible at the time. With a background in engineering and experience working with wood, I began building my own.

Over time, I kept seeing the same gap—clients with strong design intent and no one capable of executing it properly. The work evolved from there. Acht Studio was built around taking on the pieces others avoid—the ones that require deeper problem-solving and a higher level of precision.

What is the most satisfying part about running your own business?

The direct line between decision and outcome.

If there’s a better way to do something, we implement it. There’s no delay, no dilution. That’s where my engineering mindset comes in.

But the real satisfaction is seeing a project move from concept to presence. When a piece enters a space and holds attention—that’s the result we’re after.

How would you describe your business philosophy and service?

We don’t build furniture that blends in.

Every piece is developed from scratch—proportion, joinery, finish, and material. We work closely with designers and architects to ensure each piece contributes to the space, not just occupies it.

We are not a volume shop. We’re selective by design. Work at this level requires focus, and every project is approached with full attention from concept through delivery.

How would you describe yourself to the INDUSTREE group?

Focused on execution.

I run Acht Studio as both creative director and operator, staying involved from design development through fabrication. I’m drawn to complex work—challenging forms, material combinations, and tight tolerances.

If a project requires something that doesn’t exist in a catalogue, that’s where we operate.

DS Masonry and Restoration

How did you get started in the masonry & restoration industry?

I was introduced to masonry through a close friend while already working in construction. Once I got hands-on, I connected with the craft immediately. There’s something real about restoring and building work that lasts. Over time, I developed my skills through experience and eventually started my own business to do things properly and deliver lasting value.

What is the most satisfying part about running your business?

Seeing the transformation. Finishing a job and knowing it was done right and built to last. But more than that, it’s the client’s reaction. When they see the result and genuinely appreciate the work, that’s what makes it worth it. That connection keeps me going.

How would you describe your business philosophy and service?

Do the job right. Take pride in the work. Treat people with respect.

At DS Masonry and Restoration, we focus on quality over shortcuts. Every project, whether small or large, is approached with the same level of care, honesty, and craftsmanship. The goal is simple: deliver work that holds up and speaks for itself.

How would you describe yourself to the INDUSTREE group?

A craftsman first.

I take pride in honest, high-quality work and consistency. I’m here to build a reputation based on results, not talk. I value relationships, keep improving, and bring a straightforward, no-nonsense approach to every project. The goal is to raise the standard and represent the trade properly.

Christan Bosley

Meet Christan: President & Broker of Record

BOSLEY REAL ESTATE

How did you get into Real Estate?

Bosley Real Estate is a fourth-generation family business.  My journey into real estate was influenced by my father, who ran the company before me.  Originally, I aspired to become a lawyer, and I am thankful every day that I chose a different path.  I obtained my real estate license while in university and started selling in 2007.  Prior to that, I worked in various positionswithin the company, gaining valuable experience in front desk operations, marketing, and administration.  After 12 years of successful sales, I transitioned into a management role. I managed one of the company’s smaller branches and was responsible for training new realtors joining the team.  Today, I serve as the President and Broker of Record, overseeing the entire company.

What is the most satisfying part of running your own business?

There are so many aspects of running your own business that are both satisfying and challenging. To me. the most satisfying part is that I get to choose who I work with every day! It’s rewardingto work with amazing people and witness their teamwork and success.

How would you describe your business philosophy and service?

Our philosophy has been passed down through many generations and is very clear: It is to have fun and make money, and if it’s not fun, we’re going to change it!  The defining difference at Bosley is that we not only have a lot of fun, but wealso work very hard and have high expectations of our full-timeprofessionals.

How would you describe yourself to the INDUSTREE group?

I have been reflecting a lot on that question in preparation for our conversation.  I have put a lot of effort into my mental and emotional growth, particularly in my leadership style and how I interpret the everyday stress of running a business.  I work very hard to be open with the people I work with and my agents. Icreate a sense of belonging for people and when we speak, I strive to make them feel valued in the experience. I love beingchallenged and welcome conversations that push me to grow.  I am known for my transparency and honesty – sometimes to a fault.  However, I believe in providing straightforward answers even when they are difficult to hear at times.

That’s an easy one! In the same way, I would define my philosophy in life as love-wisdom, never complacent, and finding new ways to help your staff evolve and empower them to feel exactly how you feel.

How would you describe yourself to the INDUSTREE group?

It’s so hard for me to define myself because the wheels keep on spinning.  But If I was to try I would say I’m just a fun-loving guy whose ambition, continues to be his stepping stone in life.

What inspired you to create the Industree platform?

I’m just that guy that likes to bring the best together. I like high vibes, I like style, I like impeccable taste. Industry is a collective of organizations that are going to be bringing that to the table. It’s a high-class Business Directory of morals and respect for everybody.

Damien Dupuis

Meet Damien: General Contractor

Craftsman Modern Homes

How did you get into contracting?

I’ve always loved houses and Architecture, and Design..My father was an artist and my mother sold real estate…I grew up in a big old Victorian full of art. I took all the drafting classes I could in high school and even went to industrial design summer camp! I spent my 20s working as a prop stylist and set decorator…eventually deciding to move away from film and start building the real thing.  I went to George Brown Building Technologies as a mature student and then worked for other contractors for about two years before going out on my own.  My first job was a $300 railing repair on the porch.  Fifteen years later we have four employees, two full home remodels and a King St. resto-bar on the go.  We’ve come a long way but we’re still growing, always for looking for bigger and more challenging projects.

What do you think about the New Testament gear?

I thought the New Testament gear was great.  The comfortable fabric, tailoring, and attention to detail make the fit super versatile.  The perfect combination of Athleisure, streetwear, and quiet luxury.

What is the most satisfying part of running your own business?
The most satisfying aspect of running my own business  is probably the sense of accomplishment I feel – especially after completing a successful project.

How would you describe your business philosophy and service?
As a design/build firm, Craftsman Modern focuses on quality, function, and aesthetics.   For us, sustainability means building spaces that people will use and enjoy for a very long time.
